DISTRICT OFFICIALS, CONSERVATION LEADERS WAVE FLAG ON CAPITOL HILL

Over 150 conservation leaders and locally-elected conservation district officials joined NACD in Washington, D.C., today for the national association’s Spring Fly-In.

Chairman Pat Roberts of the Senate Agriculture Committee told the group this morning at the Capitol that “conservation districts are the perfect example where we see coordination in government at its best.” Sen. Roberts also encouraged NACD to advocate for conservation funding in the next farm bill, saying “federal investment in these programs has a proven track record of success.” To read Sen. Roberts full statement on the need for conservation in the farm bill, click here.

This evening, the group met at the Longworth House Office Building for a reception sponsored by the National Conservation District Employees Association and the National Watershed Coalition. On our Spring Fly-In webpage, you’ll also find a downloadable press release template that districts are welcome to make their own and distribute how they see fit.

NACD MAKES FY18 APPROPRIATIONS REQUESTS

A sizable portion of support for voluntary conservation programs is allotted as discretionary funding during the federal annual appropriations process. Every year, NACD recommends funding levels for conservation programs housed under USDA, the Interior Department, and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

NACD sent House and Senate lawmakers its Fiscal Year (FY) 2018 budget requests for key voluntary conservation programs last week. You can access the letters here on NACD’s Federal Policy webpage. Have questions? Contact Director of Government Affairs Coleman Garrison.
