NACD staff returns from retreat in West Virginia

For five days this week and last, NACD’s 18-person staff was gathered at the U.S. Fish and Wildlife’s National Conservation Training Center in Shepherdstown, West Virginia, for the association’s annual staff retreat. In addition to attending programming provided by the Center for Behavioral and Experimental Agri-Environmental Research (CBEAR) on Saturday, NACD staff members participated in several strategic planning sessions focused on expanding district and association member benefits.

Research group awards NACD CEO ‘Prize for Agri-Environmental Innovation’

The Center for Behavioral and Experimental Agri-Environmental Research (CBEAR) presented NACD CEO Jeremy Peters with the 2017 CBEAR Prize for Agri-Environmental Innovation.

Upon accepting the award on behalf of his NACD colleagues and the thousands of conservation districts they represent, Peters encouraged CBEAR to continue developing innovative, incentive-based approaches to improve the delivery and effectiveness of conservation programs.

“The team at CBEAR understands that truly engaging America’s landowners – our grassroots NACD membership – is the key to continued improvements in soil health, water conservation, and sustainable management of our natural resources,” Peters said. “We value our partnership with CBEAR and see many opportunities for future collaboration.”

NACD announces general session inspirational keynote speakers

NACD’s 2018 Annual Meeting inspirational keynote speakers Tyson Durfey and Shea Fisher live and love the country life.

Durfey is a bona fide rodeo star that has qualified for 10 rodeo national finals, won the Houston Rodeo and “The American,” and been named the 2016 World Champion Tie Down Roper.

Australian-born Fisher, a country music singer who has released albums in both Australia and the United States, is no stranger to the rodeo herself. Her mother, champion barrel racer Joanne Fisher, and father, bull riding and bareback riding champion Eddie Fisher, raised Shea on the rodeo circuit.

Durfey and Fisher will be speaking at the Opening General Session on Monday, January 29, and Fisher will perform at Tuesday evening’s Appreciation Banquet. If this will be your first time attending an NACD Annual Meeting, you may be eligible for a first-timer scholarship! Only one person per state or territory may receive a scholarship covering their meeting registration and a ticket to Tuesday’s Appreciation Banquet.
